There are two types of handpieces, air-driven and electric. Electric handpieces are much faster and cause less vibration than air-driven. This is due to the fact that an electrical motor is spinning the bur as opposed to the air. There is no need for air pressure to build up inside the handpiece system, giving a dentist an instant ability to to start working at a desired speed. The speed and minimal vibrations tremendously increase patient's comfort and cut down on the length of the procedure.
